LAGOS, NIGERIA — September, 2026 — Civic technology organization Orodata Science, in partnership with the Africa Data Hub (ADH), has officially launched the next phase of its initiative tracking government funds allocated to Primary Healthcare Centers (PHCs) across Nigeria.
Following the government’s claims of revitalizing and upgrading local Primary healthcare centers through the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA) as well as the Ministry of Health and Social welfare, this new phase moves from desk research and document reviews to ground-level verification and public reporting. We are mandated by the Red Letter from the Federal Government of Nigeria.
The goal of the project is simple: to follow the money and check if the revitalized health centers truly exist, work properly, and serve local communities as promised.
Key Steps in the Current Phase:
- Training Grassroots Field Teams: Orodata Science has completed specialized training for community data collectors and investigative journalists across Nigeria to lead field operations.
- On-the-Ground Verification of 300 PHCs: Between August and October 2026, the Frontline Data Collection experts are visiting over 300 Primary Healthcare Centers nationwide. They are capturing geo-referenced data, assessing physical infrastructure, checking equipment availability, and verifying staff presence.
- Direct Community Engagement: The Frontline Investigative teams are hosting local community sessions to hear directly from citizens and community leaders about their real-world experiences accessing care at these facilities and impact of these PHCs.
- Investigative Reports & Data Publishing: The collected raw data will undergo thorough cleaning and validation before being published openly on the Africa Data Hub portal and integrated into Orodata’s CheckMyPHC platform. Journalists will publish in-depth investigative stories with insights from the data and first hand experience accompanied by interactive data dashboards.
- Townhall Meeting: Findings will culminate in a public townhall meeting in October 2026, bringing together government officials, community leaders, health experts, and citizens to discuss accountability and solutions.
Why This Matters
Primary Healthcare Centers are the first line of defense for millions of Nigerians, especially in rural and underserved areas. While millions of Naira are allocated annually toward health center upgrades, many communities continue to face broken infrastructure and inadequate care.
“We are moving beyond figures on paper to look at the reality on the ground,” said Uche Oti, Program Manager at Orodata Science. “By matching government budgets and tender documents against actual conditions at 300 primary health centers, we are empowering citizens, journalists, and policymakers with clear facts to demand better healthcare delivery.”
