Primary Health Center State of Power Report 2024-2025

Healthcare services in Anambra, Benue, Cross River, Osun, Taraba, and Sokoto states are critical for social and economic development, yet they face significant challenges. These states, with diverse rural and urban landscapes, struggle with power instability, infrastructure deficits, and personnel shortages, which hinder the delivery of quality, accessible, and affordable healthcare. Strengthening these systems is essential for building resilient communities and supporting Nigeria’s economic stability.

This report examines the state of power supply in 345 Primary Health Centres (PHC) across six states: Osun, Anambra, Taraba, Sokoto, Cross River, and Benue. Findings show that 66% of PHCs lack a reliable power source, with only 45% connected to the national grid. Solar energy adoption is 26%, while 25% rely on generators. The lack of stable electricity significantly impacts vaccine storage, emergency services, and patient care, resulting in avoidable delays, inefficiencies, and increased mortality rates in rural communities.
